[ gold ] is text lost in the original, restored by the editor. [ blue ] is words a translator added so the sense reads smoothly. Text in (parentheses) is the original Greek or Latin word, kept beside its translation. A passage opening with † and set in smaller type is one the editor judges to be by another hand; his reason is in the scholar's notes for that verse. On a Greek page set from Scott, a small † standing alone marks the place where words he judges a later addition have been taken out of the reading line; the words themselves are given in the notes to that verse. A row of asterisks with the words a stretch of the text is lost here under it is the editor's own mark, printed across his page where a piece of the discourse has not survived; the asterisks are his and the words are ours. On a Greek page set from Scott, letters in small capitals are his conjecture where the manuscripts give other letters, printed in the type he uses for them; his note on the verse gives what the manuscripts read.
On a Greek or Latin text, turn this on and every word the House holds an entry for is underlined. Tap one for its grammar and its dictionary sense, from Liddell-Scott-Jones for the Greek and Lewis & Short for the Latin. Nothing is asked of any other site: the word list is built here and travels with the page. The grammar is read by machine and the card says so wherever the reading is doubtful.
